Scott Storch for The Miami New Times

I painted this last week for The Miami New Times! This is definitely the most disgusting painting I have ever been commissioned to paint, but was also a lot of fun to work on. I won't bother explaining what I painted here, if interested, click
here to read the article on Scott Storch in the Miami New Times. The art director was a pleasure to work with, and as I've said in the past, that goes a long way. I was told that they wanted Storch sitting on a toilet (his throne), and that he should have a pimp goblet and a bloody nose. From there I had fun, and took it to a place that I was imagining in my own head. After reading the article myself, I thought other elements of his story could be told or understood by putting him in a gross public bathroom with walls closing in, roaches, vomit, and blood . . . it's nasty, but the truth of what abuse leads to.

Because the painting will be printed on newsprint, they have to boost the contrast a bit or it will print on the flat side. This is how I intended the final to look. I had four days from start to finish on this piece and used every minute I had.

Head detail.

I spent at least 4 hours on this hand.

The gross accuracy of this completely notwithstanding, your work is amazing, brilliant, and endlessly fun to look at.
Found you through William Wray in the way of the randomness of these things but felt the pull to let you know.
Wow, and again.

Very nicely done! The hand detail could be a separate piece. It kind of looks like a disturbing Norman Rockwell in the best possible way. I think it's the way the blood stands out against the white. It's like the tomato stains on the wall in "The Problem We All Live With" by Rockwell. I'm pretty familiar with this guy too and the likeness is dead on!

that's disturbingly amazing, in the best possible way. that toilet is an accurate portrayal of most public restrooms in South Carolina.

Haha. Love the stretch marks on the stomach.

I think I prefer the increased contrast of the top cover. Gives it a bleached out sleaziness.

... again stunning work Jason, superb from the 4 hour hand to the cockroaches running up the wall - look forward to seeing you in Oz.
Practice saying 'Mate' - that may be difficult in the gas mask.

I have been a big fan for a while now and this is obne of the best pieces I've ever seen by you. Gross, yes, but what you were able to capture in this piece, in a "caricature" is simply amazing. Your work constantly inspires.

Hey, I noticed the hand almost immediately. Really. So the 4 hours was worth it. Lots of folks subconsciously see such things. That's why non-artists can't always pin point why they like certain pieces.

And yes, that's disgusting - but good.

I'm glad I don't follow pop culture cuz I've never heard of this guy. Guess I didn't miss much
